The Department of Eure and Double A Reach an Agreement for the Acquisition of the Paper Pulp Factory in Alizay

HONG KONG, Jan 24, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Premium copy paper maker Double A has concluded an agreement with the Department of Eure to purchase the pulp factory including the bio-mass power plant in Alizay adjacent to its Alizay paper mill thereby combining its integrated pulp and paper mill operating expertise with bio-mass techniques.

This initiative clearly demonstrates the advanced recovery process on the Alizay site, emblematic of re-industrialisation in France. After restarting the operation of paper machinery in June 2013, Double A Alizay's objective is to boost pulp production during the first half of 2015. This investment also reinforces Double A's commitment to the continued re-industrialisation of the area. The pulp mill bolsters Double A's competitiveness in Europe and advances Alizay as a key production site for Double A's market expansion plans into Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.

"We have agreed on the selling price of the land, the buildings and the assets necessary to revive the production site. All that remains is for us to prepare and sign the relevant deeds as soon as possible, which is in the interests of both parties as it will revive paper pulp production at the site," stated Jean Louis Destans, Chairman of the General Council of the region of Eure.

At this stage, Double A should then file an application for authorisation of exploitation which will begin a public review. Through State services, the Department of Eure is committed to collaborating with the Double A Alizay teams throughout these administrative procedures, with the objective of effectively reviving the production of pulp during the first half of 2015.

This step follows up on the exemplary industrial operations launched on 23 January 2013 between the Department of Eure, employees and Double A. After acquiring the entire site in a form of "micro-temporary nationalization" in a bid to save the industrial facilities, the Department of Eure resold it the same day to the specific department linked to the production of paper and energy supply at Double A.

The investment in the pulp mill also encompasses the bio-mass power plant. Bio-mass power would generate green energy, utilising wood and biomass from Alizay's regional sources and residuals from the Alizay pulp producing process using wood from Double A's "Paper Tree from KHAN-NA" in Thailand. This green energy is critical to the success of this investment.

According to Jean Louis Destans, "The commitments made by Double A during the sale of assets related to the paper machine on 23 January 2013 were concerning the time expected to restart the machine or the number of jobs to be created. Double A's decision to further invest in the Alizay pulp production site today confirms their enduring commitment on our territory, and their willingness to make this the production site for the European market. This proves that political goodwill can pay off in industrial progress. Therefore, we believe that we have made the right decision last year with the employees." This worthwhile operation will ultimately be seen in financial terms as neutral to the General Council but largely positive in terms of the economy and employment.

"The year 2013 marked a successful return of the Alizay Paper Mill, which resumed full production in June and was manufacturing premium quality Double A paper by August. The mill began exporting paper in September to the UAE and Eastern Europe. This success was due to the combined efforts of the professional teams at Alizay and Thailand, forging a truly unique partnership." said Thirawit Leetavorn, Senior Executive Vice President of Double A.

Background History
-- On 23 January 2013, the Department of Eure bought the entire industrial Alizay site for 22.2 million euros
-- On the same day, the Department resold the land and assets for the recommencement of production of paper and energy supply to Double A for 18 million euros.
-- The Department still owns 50 hectares of land and the remaining assets, including the pulp and paper factory.
-- 10 June 2013, Double A Alizay produced its first paper roll by importing raw material from Thailand and Brazil
-- 30 November 2013, Double A Alizay recruited 150 employees
-- 1 December 2013, the General Council announces the sale of the pulp factory to Double A Alizay
-- On the same day, Double A Alizay announced its goal to restart the factory during the first half of 2015.

We are inviting everyone to visit us at Paperworld and experience the real difference, and that indeed; everything in life, like paper is not equal", added Mr. Leetavorn who is at Double A stand from 25 - 28 January.

Alizay paper mill uses short fiber raw materials from Thailand's KHAN-NA, the vacant space around rice paddies where sustainable paper trees are grown. This unique agro-forestry guarantees the biodiversity of the land and provides local farmers with additional income. The high fiber pulp from KHAN-NA delivers the premium quality trusted by consumers in more than 120 countries.

Gemalto breakthrough technology provides unprecedented quality for engraving laser color photos in secure polycarbonate documents

AMSTERDAM, May 12, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, launches Sealys Color in Polycarbonate, a remarkable innovation that allows very high quality color photographs to be permanently embedded into polycarbonate documents such as IDs, driving licenses and passports. Images up to 1200 dpi resolution have been made robustly tamper-proof through a laser-engraving process, which applies markings deep into the document datapage. Polycarbonate documents are already recognized for their security and durability and now Sealys Color in Polycarbonate adds another unique feature to Gemalto's broad range of options to better meet the evolving demands of government authorities and national printers.

The use of high resolution color portraits is well appreciated to facilitate more accurate on-the-spot identification at border checkpoints. Additional security features include deep-set embedding of microtext in the image to make alteration virtually impossible. In addition, the new technology enables personalization to be performed independently of the document manufacturing process, so as to preserve complete flexibility at issuance.

Sealys Color in Polycarbonate complements Gemalto's wide ranging and innovative laser-personalization portfolio. Unique in the market, Sealys Edge Sealer engraves the holder's name or ID number along the document edge. Sealys Window is a transparent area inside the card which makes any attempt to tamper with the document immediately obvious.

"Gemalto's highly sophisticated laser engraving technology is designed to counter forgery while remaining easy for officials to verify document authenticity, hence providing more convenience to legitimate holders," commented Frederic Trojani, Executive Vice President of Government Programs at Gemalto. "Building on Gemalto's unparalleled expertise in secure documents - reflected in over 80 national programs - it is part of our commitment to continue to invest in pioneering solutions that help keep our customers one step ahead."

Greenfields Milk Introduces a New Family-friendly Pack

0

Greenfields Milk has introduced a new value-for-money pack size to their line of fresh milk in Singapore.
SINGAPORE, Apr 2, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Greenfields Milk has introduced a new value-for-money pack size to their line of fresh milk in Singapore. The new and improved 1.89 litre pack size is a response to the growing demand from customers for a family-sized value pack that promises both freshness and quality.

"This new packaging addresses the growing demand from our customers for a family sized value pack that retains the freshness, nutrients and quality of our Honest milk over a longer period of time," said Jan Vistisen, Head of Sales and Marketing, AustAsia Dairy Group (SEA).

Greenfields Milk has been growing steadily in Singapore with the fresh, quality milk promise of delivering "Honest Milk" from farm to supermarkets in two days without any additives and preservatives proving to be popular with consumers. In keeping with this promise, the new 1.89 litre pack made out of paperboard gable top, not only seals in the nutrients better, but also makes for a handy pack for families to use.

Paperboard Retains Nutrients for a Longer Time

Greenfields Milk's market study showed that Singaporean family units were increasing their consumption of milk as part of their daily diet.

"Consumption patterns and habits are changing in Singapore, especially those of families. We recognised that families in Singapore consume our fresh milk differently and there was a growing need for value packs that were easy to store, handle and re-use for a limited period of time," explained Vistisen.

Using paperboard gable top cartons not only retains freshness but also protects milk better by preventing light rays, oxygen and moisture from reaching the milk that affects plastic bottles. In addition, in comparison to plastic bottles, vitamins and flavours are also retained better in a paperboard carton as the milk stays fresh for a longer time.

Environmentally-friendly practices

Through efforts in production, farm management and packaging, Greenfields Milk also hopes to raise its efforts to make the environment a greener place for all. Unlike the plastic bottles, the new paperboard gable top carton is made of a renewable resource which minimises Greenfields Milk's carbon footprint.

Founded in 1997, Greenfields Milk has been distributing milk and dairy products to discerning consumers throughout Southeast Asia and some of the world's leading food services businesses. Greenfields Milk is a staple ingredient in leading coffee chains and cafes in the region, including Starbucks Singapore.

In addition to their one litre (1L) line of Fresh Milk, Low Fat Milk with natural calcium, Skimmed Milk with natural calcium and Chocolate Malt packets, Greenfields Milk added the 1.89 Litre Fresh Milk and the 1.89 Litre Low Fat Milk packets. These can be found at all leading supermarkets and convenience stores across Singapore at a price of $5.25 each.

About Greenfields

For over 15 years, Greenfields Milk has provided Southeast Asia with the freshest milk available - and has done it the 'Honest' way. With the knowledge that happy cows make great milk, our state-of-art farm facility in the beautiful highlands of East Java, Malang, Indonesia is home to over 7,200 Holstein cows that are ethically treated and scientifically managed by a team of veterinarians and nutritionists. These happy cows produce an average of more 27 million liters of fresh milk a year. Our fully-integrated dairy farm also ensures that Greenfields Milk is delivered faster and fresher, right to your supermarket and your fridge, in keeping with our promise of delivering 'Honest Milk'.

Producing 'Honest Milk' is a reflection of the company's promise to provide only the best quality milk that's fresh and completely free of additives, preservatives and hormones. We also have our own brand of mozzarella cheese which is made to a classic Italian recipe and held to the same high standards. We distribute our products all around Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore. For more information, visit us at www.greenfieldsmilk.com.

New Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE A3 Series Helps Workgroups Win with Vivid Colours and Ease of Use

0
0

SINGAPORE, Jun 8, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Canon, the global leader in photographic and digital imaging solutions, today unveiled its latest imageRUNNER ADVANCE (iR-ADV) A3 colour series (iR-ADV C3320/C3325/C3330), an expansion of Canon's acclaimed iR-ADV line-up. The new series is designed to bring the benefits of vivid and vibrant colours, improved user friendliness, and enhanced productivity to help small and medium sized business workgroups better collaborate among themselves, and compete in the market.

"Marketing materials and coloured documents must create maximum business impact and help companies stand out. As a market leader in the imaging space, we recognise that need and with the launch of the new colour iR-ADV series, we are confident that companies can enjoy quality printouts at an efficient cost of ownership," said Melvyn Ho, Senior Vice President, Domestic Operations Group, Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Driving business impact with colour

The iR-ADV C3300 series features a new engine that offers the perfect combination of efficiency and reliable high quality output. Instrumental to achieving this outcome is Canon's new V2 (Vivid & Vibrant) imaging technology that enables workgroups to produce professional-looking colour documents in-house that deliver consistently strong brand impact, on-demand, and helping them stand out from the competition.

Eco Friendly, Smart Stapling

A new compact Inner Finisher combines both traditional stapling and eco-stapling in one to reduce waste as well as simplify recycling and shredding. The iR-ADV C3300 series has an optional 3-in-1 Inner Finisher. On top of the normal stapling finish, users can leverage the Staple-on-Demand feature to staple their original documents together after scanning or printing, without needing to walk back to their desks. The environmental-friendly Eco-Staple option enables users to bind a maximum of five sheets of paper together staples-free. Employees can then easily shred documents without having to remove any staples, improving workflow efficiency.

Improved user friendliness

The iR-ADV C3300 series offers an onscreen Walkthrough Video, a first in the industry, providing step-by-step instructions to guide users through consumables replacement with the choice of English, Chinese, or Japanese languages, with more languages planned in the pipeline to ensure maximum user-friendliness across the region. With this new feature, employees need not spend additional time and effort on guesswork in troubleshooting, thus allowing them to focus on business that really matter. For larger fleets, all iR-ADV models can now be centrally managed, configured and updated remotely in a consistent and efficient manner with a remote operation kit, which allows IT administrative staff to resolve users' issues in a timely, accurate and effective manner.

Cost and Energy Efficiency

In addition to these winning features, users stand to enjoy improved cost efficiency as the administrative and management burden of print is removed through automatic toner management, remote diagnostics and automatic meter collection. The new devices also consumes less than one watt of energy during sleep mode and are Energy Star certified, which gives them some of the lowest TEC ratings in the office device industry.

Added Security Features for Complete Protection

Security remains an integral part of the iR-ADV C3300 series. This series is equipped with a Reminder LED light on the automatic document feeder that flashes upon scan and copy jobs completion. This reduces instances when employees leave confidential documents behind and prevent information leaks. The new series also provide added security features such as User Authentication to assist enterprises in managing user access or restricting certain functions to specific users. The iR-ADV C3300 series also ensures ultimate document security with the standard Hard Disk Data Erase feature, which automatically overwrites and erases data as soon as the job is complete, thus reducing the risk of compromising sensitive information.

Availability

The iR-ADV C3320/3325/3330 is now available at authorised Canon distributors and dealers.

SINGAPORE, Jul 1, 2015 - (ACN Newswire) - Canon, the global leader in photographic and digital imaging solutions, today unveiled its first IRIS offering in Singapore, Readiris Corporate 15. An advanced optical character recognition (OCR) solution, Readiris aims to revolutionize the way enterprises in Singapore work with paper, enabling them to now convert paper into digitized documents and images for users to seamlessly search, and share information in a smarter, more productive workplace.

"The Readiris Corporate 15 comes at a time when information is king and as more organisations compete on the basis of innovation and efficiency, in workplaces that are making solid progress into a Smart Nation reality. Creating digital information to ease business processes becomes crucial, allowing users to focus on their core missions without losing time searching documents," said Melvyn Ho, Senior Vice President, Domestic Operations Group, Canon Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Automated document processing improves productivity, archiving and work processes

The corporate version of Readiris comes with the support of Canon's range of business scanners and multi-function devices for incoming documents. It has the ability to monitor and automatically process batches of documents into Watched Folders that can be set up to process dedicated document workflows.

These folders, on a local drive, network or server are pre-assigned destinations for users to save an incoming document or image file. Depending on the folder chosen, users can assign specific formats or settings for the documents being processed. PDFs, images and paper documents are seamlessly converted into searchable PDFs, and editable file formats such as Microsoft Word, Excel, OpenOffice and more, reducing manual manipulation of text heavy hard copies and improving workflow.

This is especially useful for companies who require their scanned documents to be converted into different formats at the same time, for different work processes. For example, a company might scan a document and use the PDF copy for filing, the Excel spreadsheet for billing and the Word document for document processing.

Readiris Corporate 15 also encompasses advanced page analysis technologies, featuring a powerful table recognition tool that identifies all the elements of a table from an image file. It is able to recreate the layout into modifiable files such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Developed with an "on-the-fly OCR" feature, Readiris Corporate 15 recognises over 135 languages and enables recognition up to 5 different languages in a single document at a high speed. This feature is particularly useful for companies with global footprint who need to quickly convert documents into different languages at the same time.

Designed to improve efficiency in the workplace

Readiris Corporate 15 is able to sort multiple batches of documents by simply inserting barcodes or blank pages in the files. It then automatically recognises these barcodes and blank pages and proceeds to separate the content into distributed documents in specific output files empowering users to easily manage, save and share. The batch feature also reduces document processing time by splitting tasks over a multi-core workflow, ideal for users with large multi-page documents to process.

For companies who scan and store a large amount to PDF files, Readiris Corporate 15 software also boasts the ability to hyper-compress PDF files without compromising on image quality. The OCR solution converts image files into PDF formats that are compressed up to 50 times smaller than the original images with I.R.I.S' patented hyper-compression technology, iHQC. The four PDF formats available are: PDF-image, PDF-text, PDF text-image and PDF image-text. This unique feature allows users to save substantial amounts of storage space while archiving their documents.

Easy sharing of information allows increases mobility and efficiency

Readiris Corporate 15 empowers the mobile workforce with the ability to connect or export their digital documents to a myriad of Cloud service applications such as SharePoint, ThereFore, Dropbox, Box.net, Google Drive and Evernote. Users are able to continue or complete the work process, by sharing documents efficiently with clients and other co-workers in the organisation at no constraints on file size or file format. A powerful 3D correction feature also allows users to rectify the perspective distortion of images taken at an angle, guaranteeing excellent OCR results even while on-the-go.

Availability

Canon's new OCR software, Readiris Corporate 15 is available at authorised Canon distributors and dealers.

BHS Aims to Revolutionise Global Paper Production Industry with Breakthrough in Green New Technology

Printing & Publishing conglomerate aims to save at least 200 million trees a year by converting EFB into paper pulp

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 19, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - BHS Industries Berhad ("BHS" or the "Company"), which is primarily involved in Printing and Publishing ("P&P"), has begun venturing into a new sustainable green business, towards transforming and diversifying its existing core business operations. BHS aims to achieve this through the setting up of a green technology driven, Paper Mill factory using a patented Malaysian-owned technology called Preconditioning Refiner Chemical-Recycle Bleached Mechanised Pulp ("PRC-RBMP").

The thrust of the project is not only to revolutionise the P&P industry by providing a new source of eco-friendly and sustainable paper and pulp, but to also provide Malaysia with an alternative source of local paper and pulp products. This is to be accomplished via the processing and manufacturing of Palm Oil Industrial waste known as Empty Fruit Bunches ("EFB") into renewable paper pulp products. Accordingly, the Paper Mill Factory using PRC-RBMP, and which spans 26 acres of land granted by the Pahang State Government, is targeted to be completed in the 1st half of 2017. With direct synergistic links to BHS's core business in P&P, it marks the beginning of the Company's business transformation through the spearheading of a new sustainable 'green' industry.

Managing Director of BHS, Dato' Lim Thiam Huat shared, "In essence, using this new proprietary 'green' technology, we can save over 200 million trees which are currently being cut down every year for paper pulp production. While seemingly ambitious, this goal is in fact realistically achievable with the co-operation and combined efforts of the authorities as well as all respective stakeholders. To date there are an estimated four hundred and forty (440) Palm Oil Mills in Malaysia generating 20 million tonnes of EFB per annum, which they are facing the major challenge of disposing of. The P&P industry meanwhile is utilising raw material from the cutting down of trees which are a dwindling resource. BHS therefore aims to bridge the gap between the needs of these two industries, creating an abundant alternative raw material source for the P&P industry while simultaneously transforming EFB into a saleable commodity for the Palm Oil industry. It will revolutionise both sectors, and present a sustainable 'green' business model that is scalable and profitable, while at the same time being a big step forward for environmental conservation in the Asian region."

PRC-RBMP is an evolving basic platform that can be built on to create new technologies for the conversion of all other waste from Palm Oil Mills into usable and saleable commodities. Ultimately, the consolidation of all these technologies will be known as "Oil Palm 'Zero Waste' Technology" and will offer a diverse source of new income derived from the trading of pulp and paper, royalties, consultancy services, the design, supply and fabrication of machineries, and the construction of new facilities. BHS is therefore currently collaborating with the Federal Land Development Agency ("FELDA") to leverage on continuous access to EFB waste from oil palm processing operations and to assist the Palm Oil Mills themselves by using what is now regarded as a waste product to be discarded. Harnessing the PRC-RBMP technology effectively, will allow the conversion of 7 million tons of pulp per annum of existing EFB waste in Malaysia, and bring about a number socio-economic benefits: new jobs are expected to be created in the surrounding areas and across the state; increased economic development especially among rural communities which will subsequently improve their standard of living; Pekan's workforce will be propelled towards being more knowledge-based. Ultimately the Company hopes to propagate the use of the PRC-RBMP technology around the region, with Malaysia as its focal point as an international biomass processing hub.

With this vision in mind, BHS, through its subsidiary Nextgreen Pulp and Paper Sdn. Bhd. ("Nextgreen"), today held an official ground-breaking ceremony at the Rest Area along kilometre 26.8, Lebuhraya Gambang - Segamat, Palo Hinai, Pekan, Pahang. The ceremony was officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia. Also in attendance were:

1. Yang Amat Berhormat, Dato' Sri Diraja Haji Adnan bin Haji Yaakob, Menteri Besar of Pahang;
2. Yang Berhormat, Dato' Sri Muhammad Safian bin Ismail, Setiausaha Kerajaan Pahang;

Higher Levels of Personalisation on the new Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series for achieving Higher Business Productivity

Standard Picture Login, Printing and Scanning from Mobile Services and Intelligent Recovery made standard in new generation models designed for greater user convenience

SINGAPORE, Mar 23, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - Canon today announced the launch of the first models in the newest generation of imageRUNNER ADVANCE (iR-ADV) A3 multi-function devices (MFDs) (iR-ADV 6555i/6565i/6575i). The new iR-ADV comes in Titanium White and Damson Black to complement the increase in contemporary-designed offices with an emphasis on clean lines and neutral colour palettes.

"The needs of the modern workgroups are constantly changing, and Canon strives to be at the forefront of the industry. Our new generation series features a high level of connectivity and personalisation. These features were designed to create a user-centric platform to help users simplify workflow and increase their productivity at work," said Vincent Low, Director of Business Imaging Solutions, Canon Singapore.

Brilliance in Simplicity with Personalisation

The new generation of iR-ADV is designed around large workgroups, allowing for a high level of personalisation that begins with picture log-in for user authentication and the gateway to access My ADVANCE, a one-step approach to user customisation and enhanced security.

In an environment where employees of different nationalities work together, the new feature in the iR-ADV MFDs enables users to customise the default settings on the initial display screen to suit their preferred language, input their frequent document imaging tasks and even their own address list.

In this instance, My ADVANCE enables a user working on various projects to create secure Group Address[1] lists accessible only to authenticated group members through the personalised Address Book on the new iR-ADV MFDs. The new level of personalisation is designed to enhance convenience for the user, allowing them to save time from searching and selecting specific users and minimising the chances of sending mail to unintended recipients with the same name.

These days, users demand interfaces that are easy to use, and the enhanced iR-ADV with the 10.1-inch touchscreen interface offers an intuitive experience with smartphone-like functionalities such as 'swipe and pinch.'

Intelligent Features Drive Productivity and Sustainability

The innovative Intelligent Recovery system on the new iR-ADV series detects users who are in proximity and achieves a quicker start-up from sleep mode for users' convenience. Even in the presence of possible users, the device will return to sleep mode after 30 seconds if it is not in use, thus optimising savings gained from power consumption.

The environmentally friendly ECO-staple is also an optional external finisher in the new iR-ADV series. This feature enables users to bind a maximum of five sheets of paper together staples-free and also facilitates easy shredding of documents without having to remove staples beforehand, thus improving workflow efficiency as well.

With connectivity vital for workers in the digital age, the latest iR-ADV series is further enhanced with standard Wi-Fi connectivity function, allowing users to print and scan wirelessly from their smart devices.

Reinforced Security for Confidence

The new user authentication system with picture log-in also helps to bridge security and control gaps, enabling better management of user access, where administrators would be able to isolate certain functions to specific users.

With the new iR-ADV devices, comprehensive Hard Disk Drive (HDD) security comes standard with features such as HDD Data Erase, HDD Password Lock and HDD Encryption which is FIPS 140-2 validated. These security features automatically overwrites and erases data as soon as the job is complete, thus reducing the risk of compromising sensitive information.

The Forced Details Output function lists specific information (date and time, user identification, device IP and serial number) on every printed page to facilitate higher security and control of printed documents. This is especially important when required to track the source of the printed document for a user who may have left behind confidential information.

Availability

The new monochrome iR-ADV 6555i/6565i/6575i series is now available at authorised Canon distributors and dealers in Singapore.

BANGKOK, Mar 25, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - TPBI PCL (SET:TPBI), a leading environmentally-friendly and socially responsible packaging company, finished its much-anticipated SET introduction this week with shares at bid-only, +34%. Company management had enhanced investor confidence by highlighting the innovative production technology that will enable the company to supply value-added packaging products and secure leadership in the global packaging industry.

Following the Company's initial public offering (IPO) of 100 million shares at a par of THB 1 each, and subscription period from 16 to 18 March at THB 10.80 per share, TPBI began trading on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) on 24 March, under the symbol TPBI.

Mr Somsak Borrisuttanakul, Chief Executive Officer of TPBI, explains the Company employs production processes that meet international standards and offers a diverse range of services, including product design and formula development, manufacturing and procurement and raw materials and product inspection.

TCBI satisfies demand from world-class industrial firms, modern-trade, retailers and supermarkets across different packaging products, including vest-carrier plastic bags, packaging for consumables, garbage bags (in flat packs or rolls) for household use, and bioplastic bags.

The company also supplies multilayer blown film and flexible packaging for use as materials in related industries. In particular, its flexible packaging products for consumables, e.g. ready-to-eat and frozen foods, meet growing demand from food producers and customers, and its eco-friendly packaging products, including those produced from petroleum and other natural materials and paper cups, are degradable by landfill methods.

"We can offer a full range of plastic packaging solutions to customers. We use engineering expertise in plastic production management to develop a great variety of premium products and respond effectively to the needs of our global customers and the demands for eco-friendly plastic packaging products," he said.

Mr Tanachai Banditvorapoom, head of investment banking, TISCO Securities Co., Ltd., the Financial Advisor and Lead Underwriter, added that demand for plastic packaging products remains high, supported by the global economic expansion and by the fact that the consumers now prefer eco-friendly products.

TPBI's two modern plants in Sam Phran (Nakhon Pathom Province) and Rayong have a combined capacity of 64,920 tons per year, and a separate plant for production of flexible packaging of consumables in Sam Phran has a capacity of 96 million metres (or 192 million packs) per year, he added.

Given such capacity, TPBI is ready to produce and supply immense volume of plastic packaging products to the world. It is now marketing products in new markets, such as the Asean and African markets, in addition to its major export markets as Australia, EU, US and Japan. Additionally, the production and sales of its high value-added products are increasing.

Survey: Nearly 70% Cautiously Optimistic on Sales Prospects; Chinese Mainland Market Seen as Having Most Growth Potential

HONG KONG, Apr 30, 2016 - (ACN Newswire) - Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the 31st Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair concluded today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The concurrent 11th Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair (27-30 April) also came to a close at AsiaWorld-Expo. The twin fairs together attracted more than 64,000 buyers from 134 countries and regions. Around 50,000 buyers visited the Gifts Fair, while over 14,000 buyers attended the Printing & Packaging Fair. Markets such as the Chinese mainland, Malaysia, the Philippines, Italy and Indonesia saw growth.

"In the face of a fluctuating global market, suppliers should promote their brands and products even more proactively, while distributors and retailers should seek out new competitive products," said Benjamin Chau, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director. "Showcasing top-quality items and providing a diverse range of choices, the two fairs are the ideal platform for both promoting and sourcing products."

The HKTDC organised a total of 171 buying missions from 75 countries and regions for the two fairs, comprising more than 13,200 buyers. At the fairground, business matching services were also provided to foster business opportunities and partnership-building. Moreover, in view of the keen demand for small order sourcing, the hktdc.com Small Orders display at the Gifts Fair featured over 360 showcases offering more than 2,500 products available for orders of between five and 1,000 units. A total of 23,000 business connections were generated during the four-day fair.

Mr Chau also noted that, during the Gifts Fair the HKTDC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Thailand, a key ASEAN country, to strengthen business promotion and cooperation between Hong Kong and Thailand. This includes offering a top-quality promotion platform for Thai products through the HKTDC's fairs and online promotion services, covering sectors such as garments, fashion accessories, textiles, food and agricultural products.

Cautiously optimistic on sales prospects; decorative gifts & figurines to lead market growth

The HKTDC commissioned an independent onsite survey during the Gifts Fair, interviewing some 920 buyers and exhibitors about their views on market prospects and product trends. The survey found that the industry is cautiously optimistic about the gifts market this year. Close to half of the respondents expect overall sales to remain the same in the coming year with 20 per cent expecting sales to improve. Thirty-seven per cent of respondents expect production costs and sourcing costs to increase. More than 60 per cent of respondents, however, do not expect to raise FOB selling prices or retail prices, suggesting that they will not transfer increasing costs to customers. As for the market with the highest growth potential, most respondents pointed to the Chinese mainland, followed by Hong Kong and Korea.

The survey also analysed product trends in the gifts and premium market. Most respondents said they expect decorative gifts and figurines to have the strongest growth potential this year, followed by tech gifts and advertising gifts and premium. As for products, the industry generally believes that consumers are increasingly focused on product practicality and quality, followed by their pricing and cosmetic design.

Ideal platform for exploring business opportunities & promotion

Tian Guofeng, Director, Exhibition Department, China International Center for Economic & Technical Exchanges, Ministry of Commerce, said this was the first time that the Ministry had organised a delegation to the Gifts Fair, comprising 10 companies from Yunnan Province. "As the Hong Kong fair is not only the world's largest gifts and premium fair but also the most influential show of its kind, it will help Yunnan manufacturers develop overseas markets," said Mr Tian. "Exhibitors from Yunnan Province are showcasing a wide variety of high-end products such as metal ware, silverware, wooden gifts, pottery, stone carvings and gunny handbags. Responses from buyers have been very encouraging."

Shosuke Fukushima, Director of Japan Pavilion, Business Guide-Sha, Inc., said that Japanese exhibitors achieved very good results at last year's fair, so they returned this year with 17 companies joining the Japan Pavilion, the largest-ever such delegation. "Japanese exhibitors are here showcasing all kinds of trendy products such as cosmetics, garments, stationery, toys and video games. The Hong Kong fair is an international trade fair where Japanese exhibitors can talk to many buyers and learn more about the market needs. More importantly, Hong Kong is a key gateway for Japanese companies to look for distributors and retailers from all over the world. We'll continue to organise the Japan Pavilion next year."

Hong Kong exhibitor Phoebe Wong, Director of Eco Concepts, said it was their fifth time to participate in the fair. The company produces various green products with PLA (polylactic acid). "Through business matching services provided by the HKTDC, we have met with more buyers from Europe, probably because our products can meet their strict requirements in terms of environmental protection. On the first day of the fair, we have already got an order worth US$9,000 from a Thai buyer," said Ms Wong.

Another Hong Kong exhibitor, Gianna Company Ltd., strives to inject new design elements into products. The company's Managing Director Lawrence Tong said the market trend towards innovative designs is prevalent. "We received onsite orders worth over HK$2 million in total from long-time clients. We have also established contacts with many potential buyers from various countries at the fair," said Mr Tong.

Meanwhile, at the Printing & Packaging Fair, Hong Kong exhibitor Tommy Yu, Senior Manager of VersaTech Energy Innovation Limited, and Environmental Consultant of The Hong Kong Printers Association, noted cleaner production is the way forward amid growing environmental concerns. The Hong Kong Printers Association made good use of the Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair to promote new technology for cleaner production. "Many large-sized printers have taken the task seriously and we want to encourage more SMEs to join the wave through the exhibition. In the first few hours of exhibition, about 50 visitors including printing-related companies from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, the Philippines and Taiwan approached us. They showed keen interest in how new technology in cleaner production can work for printers."

New products and onsite orders

Sia Yew Ming, Senior Corporate and Trade Marketing Manager, Mediacorp TV Singapore Pte Ltd, was a first-time visitor to the Gifts Fair. She came looking to develop products that are related to their TV programmes with a view to selling them to consumers through convenience stores and book shops in Singapore. She said that, with so many suppliers at the fair, there was a great variety of products at competitive prices. She said she placed an order of 500 units of USBs and 500 units of power banks on the second day of the fair. "I have found a lot of new ideas and new products here. I have found 10 potential suppliers and will follow up after the show," she said.

Barama is an importer and wholesaler of stationery, paper products, school bags and toys in Argentina. This year was their seventh visit to the Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair. Alex Leibovich, Manager of Barama, said they were looking for school products and new suppliers. "So far, we have identified three new suppliers of paper products and punchers at the fair, and we have already placed onsite orders for US$20,000 worth of paper products and US$13,000 worth of punchers."

B. Food Product International from Thailand sells food products domestically as well as to different markets worldwide including Asia and Europe under two major brands S-Pure and BETAGRO. Sakhorn Jullarat, the company's Product and Process Development Director, said, "We put strong emphasis on the quality and safety of the food we produce every day. This is our first visit to the Hong Kong International Printing & Packaging Fair. We've already found five potential suppliers for packaging items that will be used for our frozen and chilled food products. We can find a lot of interesting packaging products and ideas here. We would like to visit the fair again next year."
